Berresford, in contravention of Special Rule 87, was riding up a dip (inclination 1 in 5) on a load attached to an endless rope. Thirty yards in trout were other loads attached by an ordinary bulldog clip. A jerk caused this clip to become detached, and the loads ran back on deceased, who was carried some yards down the dip by them.
