Either a premature explosion of gelignite killed the fireman and ignited an accumulation of gas in the unventilated workings adjoining the place where they were working and caused the death of the other three men, or one of their naked lights first ignited the gas causing an explosion and also lighted the gelignite which was apparently in the fireman's hands. 4 killed.
