Whilst hewing, a small piece of stone fell on to the back of his neck he put himself under medical care and did not work again. He died on 28th May, and an inquest was held on 30th May. After hearing the medical evidence, the jury found that Little died from convulsive fits directly or indirectly resulting from accidental injury received whilst at work on 6th January.
