- Details of Event
- The place had only recently been retimbered with the strongest larch available, a pack of old wood 3 feet thick, being built above the new larch. Between this pack and the roof there was a cavity of 12 feet, and a mass of ore fell down from the side near the roof and crashed through the timber. Clegg was a trailer, working at this point; Lightfoot was passing at the time. If a wooden pillar had been built from the packing to the roof the accident would in all probability have been prevented, but both officials and workmen thought the place had been made secure. 2 killed.
