- 19 December 1923: Workman Killed In Airdrie Pit - While acting as bencher regulating traffic of hutches in Rosehall No.7 Pit, near Airdrie, William Lewis (30), who resided at 113c Deedes Street , Airdrie, was fatally injured. He had been shifting a hutch back on to the rails while the haulage was going on, and got between two hutches, which came together and literally crushed him to death. [Scotsman 22 December 1923]
Bellshill - Colliery Fatality - On Wednesday forenoon about 11 o'clock, while William Lewis, coal miner, was at work in No.7 Rosehall Colliery, he was overtaken by a load of hutches and struck on the head with fatal consequences.
