- Deceased and an overman were On the Four-feet seam landing for the purpose of seeing that the water barrel passed safely upwards through the opening in the stage. They had been there some time when the overman, who was on one side of the pit, noticing the rope swinging, called out to deceased to watch the knocker, as the barrel was losing water. Directly he spoke deceased jumped forward and fell down the pit. He must have been asleep, was startled, and moved before he was fully awake. The shaft is 20ft. in diameter and the opening in the stage was 6ft. square. The landing was well lighted by electricity.
