- Details of Event
- He fell from the cage when descending after having his supper at the surface. Apparently the result of his own carelessness in not holding the rail provided for the purpose as there was nothing to account for his falling out. The cages do not appear to have met with any obstacle in the run according to the evidence of the engineman, banksman and hitcher. It has been suggested as usual in these cases, that he may have had a fit or a seizure of some sort but he was said to enjoy good health and was never known to be liable to anything of the sort. These accidents naturally give support to the proposal that gates should be placed on the cages wen are ascending or descending.
