- Details of Event
- He had been employed at the shaft bottom for about a year coupling empty tubs but at his own request he was started to drive a pony and the accident happened the second shift after he began. At this colliery it is the custom for a man to go with new drivers to instruct them in their duties, and a roadman was with the deceased when the accident occurred. He was bringing five full tubs out-bye. The pony was walking steadily, the roadman was putting in a locker to hold the tubs down a slight gradient, and the deceased was getting on the front tub when he slipped and fell under the tubs and was fatally injured. Died on the 21st. The drivers were allowed to ride on the tubs on this road, which was in excellent order.
