- Fall of rock roof at the face, it fell in front of the road from a smooth or slip and joints, being "feather edged" near the coal. Double timbers would probably have saved him, but they were not customary in the seam, and the stone 8 or 9 feet by 17 feet and 15 inches gave no previous signs of danger. Timbering as carried out in some of the Continental mines and probably as carried out at would have saved the situation.
