- 29 September 1920: Fatal Mining Accident at West Calder - A motorman named Patrick Lee; a married man, residing at Stoneyburn, lost his life by-an accident in Foulshiels Pit, Stoneyburn, belonging to the United Collieries (Ltd.). A fall had taken place in the workings, and Lee and several other workmen had been in the act of clearing it, when a second fall took place. Lee was killed on the spot, and another workman named Henry Dougan injured . Several other workmen had a narrow escape. [Scotsman 1 October 1920]
