He was repairing an automatic coal tippler on the screens, and misunderstood a warning shout that a tub was approaching. He stepped hack in front of an adjoining tippler, and his leg was caught by a tub of stone and jammed against the sharp edge of the tippler guide. He died the same day from loss of blood.
