A journey of full trams had been left overnight at a junction and at the end of the night shift two tram were let down from the shaft for the purpose of coupling up with the journey. After the accident deceased was found with his head caught between the first of the two tram and the stationary journey. It was his duty to signal to the engineman when to stop the journey. No signal was however received and the trams stopped owing to the journey being in their way. Deceased had lost the power of speech but was able to walk out. He died in three days.
