4 February 1940: Pit Fatality - Following an accident in Muirkirk Colliery on Sunday, William Lang (32), who resided at 72 Goodwin Drive, Annbank, died later in Ayr County Hospital. He leaves a wife and young family. [Scotsman 6 February 1940] Injuries sustained while in the course of his employment when a shot was fired in No.5 road in the Jewel Coal Long Wall Section in the underground working of Ayr No.10 Mine, Parish of Tarbolton Ayrshire.
