10 December 1915: FATAL RESULT OF GELATINE EXPLOSION. - Robert Laird, who was frightfully injured in Broomridge Pit, Dennyloanhead, on Monday, died this morning in Denny Cottage Hospital. By an explosion of gelatine he lost his right arm, a finger of his left hand, and received terrible injuries to his face. Laird was 39 years of age, married, and resided at Parkfoot Cottage.
