Details of Event
Deceased was with the chargeman in a cross-cut 9 feet wide. Before firing the shot in the bottom canch it was necessary to set a pair of gears to replace those set by the hewer. Deceased was knocking some sticky coal from the roof with an axe to prepare for the gears when the stone fell. It was 6 feet by 4 feet by 10 inches and canted out the gears set during the working shift. The chargeman had examined the roof immediately before the accident.
