- Details of Event
- The deceased was on his way in-bye with his pony when he was knocked down by six runaway full tubs and killed. The cause of the tubs running away was the jerking of the haulage rope displacing the pin by which these full tubs had been clamped to the endless rope. Some of the haulage wheels were to be repaired and instructions had been given to the man in charge of the haulage ropes to detach all the full and empty sets and to secure them. These instructions were, however, not carried out in the case of two full sets which were left on the rope, and when the engineman reversed his engine for the purpose of enabling the repairs to be done, the jerk took place and caused the accident. Seven Corporals were prosecuted for not having carried out these instructions and were each fined £1 and 8s. 8d. costs.
