These men were run over by a timber tram and killed as they were on their way inbye. Two youths had been told to take a tram of timber into the Hutton Seam. To this, owing to the heavy gradient the custom had always been to put a tub in front of the timber train and to yoke a pony to the tub. On this occasion the youths dispensed with the pony and the tub and, although there were two sprags in the tram wheels, it ran amain down the incline. The youths were severely reprimanded by the Coroner at the inquest for their action. 2 killed.
