Deceased was loading at a buttock in a longwall face where the maximum distance between the props or roof support allowed by the special rules is 6 feet. There was a row of props on the pack side set well within the distance, but in the row next the face there was a space of 6 feet 6 inches between the buttock and the nearest limit. A fall occurred from three smooth slips in this space, which crushed deceased against the pack. Strict adherence to the timbering rules might have prevented the accident.
