- Details of Event
- Deceased, with the stallman was working at the face of a stall in the Deep Seam, which was being carried forward between two faults the stallman being engaged in drilling a hole in the coal while deceased was shovelling dirt into the gob, when a large piece of rock fell from between the right side fault and an unseen slip. The stallman escaped with slight injury to his back and foot but deceased was knocked down and buried beneath the rock. When extricated he was found to he badly injured and was taken to the Accident Home, where he died an hour later. The stone which fell had only a piece of lagging, stretched from a bar 2.5 feet away, for support, and this was broken off by the edge of the bar. A prop under the end of the lagging would have prevented the fall. Otherwise the place was well timbered in view of the presence of the faults.
