- Details of Event
- Deceased and his marrow were preparing for a shot in the top canch of a crossheading, and were setting breaking off timber. Coal cutters were used on the face and the roof cuts off regularly each fall. A stone, 15 feet by 2 feet by 5 feet, rolled off the pack from one of these breaks, knocked out the timber in the crossheading, and killed him instantly. A shot had been fired in an adjoining place, 20 minutes before, and this may have shaken the stone.
