Deceased and two other men were "checking" a level driven through the shaft pillar, and the method adopted was to hole the coal and drop the bind from the top of it. Work had hardly been started when about 23 feet of the side, weighing over 10 tons, came down and buried deceased. There was a pronounced break parallel to the road and the fall from this.
