- Details of Event
- Owing to the seam being thinner than usual, six inches of seggar was taken up to make tub height in order that the tubs might be taken along the face. After this was done, however, there was only a space of five inches between the roof and tub top. In order to make more tubbing space it was customary to tilt up one end of the tub by means of a short prop, as was done in this case. The deceased had filled his tub and was reaching over to spread the coals, when he evidently shook the tub causing the prop supporting the other end to fall out, and his head was crushed between the other end and the roof. He died four days later.
