- Details of Event
- Along with the foreman and other four workmen he was assisting to take down the jib of a crane, placed by the edge of the quarry in order to replace it with a longer one. The jib was secured by means of a rope from the drum, and he got on to the platform carrying the boiler and engine to work the engine to lower the jib to the ground; the other men, in the meantime, were lowering one of the iron stays which held the jib in position when the place onto which the stay was fastened or on to the top of the upright leg gave way, this liberated the stay carrying the, platform and boiler and they broke away and with deceased fell into the quarry, a distance of 44ft. He was severely injured, and died on February 1st.
