- Details of Event
- Run over and injured by two empty trams which were left on a double parting for the repairer and assistant to fill with rubbish. The gradient of the roadway was 1 in 18. The trams had not been spragged. Kennedy was said to have placed a slab of timber in the front wheels while he went away in search of sprags. It was thought that the haulage rope moved the slab away and the trams were set in motion. Kennedy was unable to hear them coming in consequence of the noise made by the rope and the sheaves on the engine plane. The injury was not considered serious, but heart failure and kidney disease caused his death on 12th March, 1908, accelerated in the doctor’s opinion by the accident.
