Deceased was engaged filling a tub of coal on the flat sheets at the gate end, when a large block of sandstone rock fell from the roof across his back. The deputy had passed under it only a minute before. The stone fell from between two slips previously unseen, and a prop was pushed out at their end. Deceased died in hospital on 6th September from exhaustion due to a broken back.
