In main haulage brow preparing to take out a length of old arching which had settled and flattened until there was not sufficient tub height underneath, three props set on this flat unsupported arch were probably knocked out by a fall of side from a defined slip, this led to the collapse of the arch. Isaac Waterworth, working with deceased, his ribs fractured, yet bravely returned to extricate deceased, then alive; further falls caused Waterworth to step back, but again and again be returned to the rescue until compelled to seek assistance.
