He was pushing a full tub in the gate road when he slipped down and injured himself. The verdict of the coroner's jury was that death was caused by pneumonia preceded by pleurisy and that the pleurisy was caused by the slip deceased had in the pit. He died on the 20th and the post-mortem examination showed that there was no bruise upon the body nor any sign of injury.
