- 11 January 1917: Fatal Pit Accident At Valleyfield - James Kelly, miner, lately residing at Preston Crescent, High Valleyfield was killed at work in No 1 Pit, Valleyfield Colliery, of the Fife Coal Coy on Thursday. While he was engaged at the face a fall of stones weighing at least a ton caught him and crushed him internally. He died after being taken to the surface. His eldest son was working beside him at the time of the accident. Kelly was 52 years of age. [Dunfermline Journal 13 January 1917]
