Details of Event
Killed in the winding engine house, No.3 Pit. He appears to have been cleaning some part of the engine although not exactly proved to have been so at the moment. His head was crushed between the steam brake lever of the reversing handle underneath the platform six feet above the floor of the engine house on which the engineman stands. How he came to be caught is unknown as the engineman was letting men down at the time and could not see him.
