- A wooden gangway extended from a point where baring was being moved for some distance into the quarry to a disused part where the baring was tipped from small wagons running on rails laid on the gangway. A light wire rope supported at intervals extended at a height of 3 feet along each side of the gangway and acted as a fence. Deceased and another man were bringing forward a loaded wagon and are said to have been going too fast. The wagon jumped the rails and fell a distance of 40 feet to the bottom of the quarry carrying both men with it. The jury recommended a stronger fence.
