Details of Event
He was getting coal at the face when the roof fell on him and injured him so severely that he died the same day. The fall disclosed a slip in the form of a pothole measuring 6 ft. 10 ins. by 4 ft. thick in the centre. The roof should have been better supported, the distance had exceeded the distance under the Special Rules of Timbering and also neglected to set two props where the night deputy had chalked the roof for them.
