He was putting a tram of timber on the cage at the level of the ground (lower landing) and through a misunderstanding the banksman, who was in the upper landing about 16 to 17 feet above him, but not in view knocked the cage away, causing him to fall with the tram down the shaft. The banksman clearly caused the accident even if he was not seriously to blame.
