Deceased the son of the enginewright of the colliery who was present when the accident occurred was assisting in raising an old Lancashire boiler position to act as a tank. Two chocks 29 feet apart were supporting the boiler which was raised at each end in turn by hydraulic jacks and height made good by adding wood to the chocks. Deceased was at the south end of the boiler the north end then being highest when it surged forward and crushed him against a chimney stack.
