Deceased was getting coal at the longwall face, when a large stone, 6 feet long by 3 feet 9 inches wide and 6 inches thick, fell upon him. The stone came away from two slips and displaced a prop. Previous to the accident the fireman had fired a shot in the coal which knocked out one of the props near the face. He requested the deceased to reset the prop, but there was no evidence to prove that this had been done.
