Details of Event
A barrier of coal, not more than six inches in thickness at the holing under the seam gave way, and a quantity of water lodged in old workings to the rise of the present colliery workings rushed into the ‘tophole’. Oliver Jones was struck down and was carried away by the water. His death was due to concussion of the brain sustained by his head striking against the sides of the roadway. Sydney Gower received such injuries in getting away that he also died on 18th December. 2 killed.
