- While working as chargeman in a stone drift he was preparing to set a girder up to a strong shale roof, when a stone weighing about two tons suddenly fell from the roof between the face and the nearest girder. He and another man were caught and imprisoned. Beevers was so severely crushed internally that he died on the following day.
