Deceased discovered fire-damp in a longwall face, and, leaving his safety lamp in charge of another person, he went into the gas presumably to see if the air-course was blocked. He was, in consequence, asphyxiated and found dead three or four hours later, 50 yards from where be entered the gas. Deceased had violated Special Rule 46 by going into the gas.
