He was struck on the thigh and ankle by part of about 2 tons of clay which fell off the face above the bench on which he was working. At the time there did not appear to be any serious injury and he finished his day's work. He, however, died four days later and death was attributed to cerebral embolism caused by the injuries he had sustained.
