- Details of Event
- Deceased was working at a longwall face. A tapered prop, set as a temporary support, on the bottom dirt (2 feet 3 inches thick) gave way at the foot, allowing the roof to fall on him. A prop with a tapered red was hardly a suitable support to set on the edge of the bottom dirt, as the pressure exerted on the prop caused the tapered end to act as a wedge and so split off the front edge of the bottom dirt.
