- Details of Event
- Deceased was taking a "buttock" along in a drift in the Cockshead Seam. He knocked out a sprag at the corner of the "buttock." which caused the dressing to reel over a distance of 6 yards, and at the same time a fall of roof occurred at the buttock from two slips and two breaks parallel to the face. The fall which was 2ft. thick extended over an area about 10ft. by 3ft. and previous to falling was supported by the coal standing on the sprags. A temporary prop set near the "buttock" before removing the sprag would have been a wise precaution and might have prevented the fall of roof at the spot where deceased stood.
