- Details of Event
- Was crushed by runaway trams on an engine plane having a gradient of 1 in 4, the runaway being caused by the breaking of the haulage rope at a splice. Pieces of good rope taken off an engine plane at another colliery belonging to the same owner were spliced together and used on this slant. Spliced rope should not be used on heavy gradients. The deceased was said to be passing outbye at the end of the shift when it occurred.
