As deceased was standing in a wide place on the side of a haulage road to allow a journey of trams to pass by, a piece of timber rolled off one of the trams, struck his legs, and caused him to fall forward on the journey. Before his partner could stop the journey, he was knocked off against by a projecting piece of side. He sustained a fractured leg and internal injuries from which he died on the 22nd.
