- Details of Event
- He was filling a tub at the coal face when some bind from the roof fell from between two slips and buried him; a second fall quickly followed the first and killed him. He was, at the time, cleaning some loose coal from the face preparatory to setting a bar and apparently did not consider the roof sufficiently dangerous to require temporary middle props. From his intimate knowledge of the roof, which was wet and bad, he ought to have set temporary timber at once and not waited to make room for bars.
