A fall of roof had occurred and Jones and another workman were removing the stone and re-setting the timber. Jones was filling a tub when a piece of stone weighing about 2 cwt. fell from the corner of the face left by the previous fall. The stone knocked him down, fracturing his right arm. He developed pneumonia on the 3rd instant and died on the 10th.
