- Details of Event
- He and another man had emptied several waggons of slack at the slack washer and were pinched at the end of a train of 18 empty waggons when a loco ran into the opposite end and forced them along 2 feet. Deceased was between the buffers in 4 feet and his mate called out to him to 'duck’ but the waggons moving slowly he probably had time to get out of the way but was squeezed between the buffers of the moving waggons and the full ones and killed. The shunter was in the loco and signalled to the driver to stop but it was night time and the rails were greasy and when the brake was applied the wheels skidded and the loco. ran into the empty set.
