- Details of Event
- While seven sinkers were being down up the shaft in a bowk, after lighting the fuses of 20 shots, the engineman lost control of the engine. The bowk was drawn up to the sheave and then descended and struck the rail of the running platform, which the banksman was pushing over pit top; the men were thrown out of the bowk and two of them fell down the shaft and were killed, and three others were seriously injured. The cause of the accident was found to be that some small pieces of metal had got into the throttle valve and prevented it working properly. The presence of the pieces of metal could not be accounted for. 2 killed.
