Deceased was screwing up it joint in the blow-off pipe of a Lancashire boiler in which steam was being raised. The joint was situated between the bottom of the boiler and the blow-off cock. One of the bolts broke at the neck, owing to a flaw which was not detectable by ordinary inspection, and a jet of hot water escaped and scalded him so severely that he died on the following day.
