They drilled into a missed shot, which caused it to exploded. The afternoon "Core," when their shift was finished on the previous day about 10 p.m., fired some holes in the winze where this accident occurred and in a stopes into which the winze had just holed. One shot apparently missed fire and they left word for their comrades, deceased and others, that such was the case. Four of those men, including Goard and Jennings, were told of the missed shot. On reaching the place they searched for the missed shot for 20 or 25 minutes and then gave up, thinking the shot must have exploded. After about 5 hours' work, Goard and Jennings drilled into the hole, when the explosion occurred and killed them. 2 killed.
