Deceased, immediately after lifting a heavy ball of ironstone into a tram, complained of great pain in the chest. He was taken home and died the same afternoon. A post-mortem examination was made, and death was attributed to syncope due to the sudden acute dilation of the heart brought on by exertion. The heart was found to have become fatty.
