Deceased, who worked alone is supposed to have charged a hole in the coal with compressed powder ignited the fuse and retired to a place of safety. The report of a shot was heard and he went back to his stall but as he arrived at the face, his shot went off, and injured him so badly about the head that he died on the next day. The collier in the next stall to deceased said that he fired a shot in the roof shortly before the accident and heard another go off in a minute or two afterwards. Deceased may have taken the first shot for his or he may have been doing something to his shot charging or unramming it.
